About project
The project’s goal was to create a product that goes beyond a classic chatbot and provides the user with a more personal, regularly used experience. Friend offers a safe space for conversation and daily support, while simultaneously boosting retention through language learning modules, daily news summaries, mini-games, personalization, and chat history. Sysmo’s scope of work included the mobile application, an SEO-optimized website, and an admin panel, with the product itself being under development since 2025.

Designing an AI companion that is simultaneously engaging, safe, and simple for everyday use
Based on the publicly described project scope, it is evident that the product was intended not only to respond to messages but to build a sense of relationship and user comfort. This meant the need to combine personalization, text and voice conversation, visual elements, and communication based on support and non-judgment into a single, lightweight mobile experience.

Building retention that goes beyond the „first conversation effect”
The second major challenge was designing the product so that users would have a reason to return daily, rather than just testing it once. The project’s public presentation explicitly points to a short activation path, daily hooks, and a modular architecture that allows for the development of new features without rebuilding the application’s core.
